Chelsea draw Atletico Madrid away from home in the return leg of the Women’s UEFA Champions League game 1-1 with a goal from Maren Mjelde which ended 3-0 in aggregate as the Blues progressed.

It wasn’t much of an entertaining first half from both sides who couldn’t score despite the numerous amount of opportunities created while going forward in the game.

Atletico Madrid had all the work to do after losing to the first leg 2-0 away from home despite their opponent going one man down, they couldn’t capitalize just like they failed to do at home as the game progresses.

Chelsea wasn’t much in a hurry to make anything happen as they gave more possession away to the home side who saw more of the ball but couldn’t make anything happen as the game carried on.


The first half of the encounter ended 0-0 as both women team headed for the first half break without anything coming out from both teams who had a fair amount of opportunities going forward.

Second Half Report Atletico Madrid 1-1 Chelsea

Just like the first leg encounter which came alive in the second period after a dull first half encounter, which the game finally starts showing some signs of goals to come in the early stages.

Atletico Madrid had the chances of taking the much needed lead in the 75th minute after their opponent conceded a penalty which Toni Duggan stepped and smashed it to the bar without making it count.

Chelsea immediately responded as Maren Mjelde converted from the penalty spot in the 77th minutes to give her side a 1-0 lead which was easily converted by the London side who extended the aggregate to 3-0.

The game progressed into the last few minutes with more opportunities to make something happen from both sides who failed to utilize and make something out of it despite coming close to goalmouth action.

Emelyne Laurent scored a late goal which came in the 93rd minute as the match against the two Women side ended 1-1, which means the Blues ladies progressed with a 3-1 aggregate into the next round of the competition.
