Angel Correa surprised Barcelona with a late winner as Atletico Madrid snatched an unbelievable 3-2 semi-final finish within the Supercopa de Espana.
Barcelona had seventy-five percent of possession within the opening forty-five minutes in Jed’dah, Asian nation, and looked set to ease to finish once they got over the shock of shipping a goal to substitute Koke after twenty seconds of the second half.
Lionel Messi equalized, Antoine Griezmann headed Barcelona ahead against his former club, and Messi and Gerard Pique each had goals disallowed by VAR for marginal offside decisions.
But against the momentum, that prompt a Barcelona landslide, Atletico equalized once Vitolo was hacked down by Neto and Alvaro Morata dismissed home the following 81st-minute penalty.
Atletico needed a second penalty moments later once Pique handballed, however, their frustration at not obtaining that call was forgotten when Morata slipped Correa through and also the Argentinian forward pink-slipped home the fifth and final goal of a stimulating game.
Now Real Madrid stands between Atletico and the Supercopa trophy, with the final on Sunday at the King Abdullah Sports City stadium.
