Everton and Manchester United shared a point in an amusing and feisty game at Goodison Park, wherever each teams were undone by goalkeeping mistakes.
The hosts had a dream begin due to a unfortunate error by United’s David de Gea, whose clearance cannoned straight into Dominic Calvert-Lewin and into the net for his fifteenth goal of the season.
Nemanja Matic’s shot smacked against the Everton crossbar 3 minutes later, and United continuing to threaten the Everton goal, eventually equalising once thirty one minutes as Everton’s Jordan Pickford did not stop Bruno Fernandes’ bouncing shot from twenty yards at his close to post.
Everton upped the tempo following the break and came close once Gylfi Sigurdsson hit the post with a dipping free-kick.
But there was late drama at each ends in a very thrilling encounter as each keepers saved themselves with fine saves and Calvert-Lewin had a late goal dominated out for offside as Sigurdsson lay ahead of de Gea.
That led to Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti tackling the referee and being shown a red card once the final whistle with boos ringing around Goodison Park.
The result means that United extended their unbeaten run to eight games and stay fifth, whereas Everton’s probabilities of reaching the Europa League were dealt a blow following Wolves’ win at Spurs.
