“I Thought They Didn’t Trust Me” – Tuchel Admits Unhappy With 18-Months Deal

Chelsea manager has come out to confirm that he wasn’t happy when he was presented with an 18 months deal by those at Stamford Bridge which I thought about not having their trust.

The former Paris Saint-Germain manager was talked into taking over as the Blues handler and he intends to earn a long-term stay at Stamford Bridge despite being currently handed a short deal.

Thomas Tuchel admits to having had “trust” concerns when presented with an 18-month contract by Chelsea after he lost his job managing PSG where he won numerous trophies before his dismissal.

The German quickly made peace with that offering and intends to earn an extended stay at Stamford Bridge which he might get under the condition of guiding the side to a top four finish before the end of the current season.

Roman Abramovich turned to the former Borussia Dortmund manager after he dismissed Frank Lampard over a poor run of results after investing over £200 million plus in the transfer market despite the financial crisis.

Tuchel has only agreed a deal through to the summer of 2022, but he showed concerns before accepting deal as he fully understands how it is with the limited patients the Club have for any manager they hire.

Thomas Tuchel Had So Much To Say

On agreeing to take the reins at Chelsea in late-January, Tuchel told BT Sport of his 18-month agreement: “At first I didn’t like it, I thought ‘maybe they don’t trust me?’

“’I have to leave my country, maybe leave my family behind and they are many points behind fourth spot’.

“Maybe we won’t make it which is still possible because it’s a tough race and it will be easy to sack me again.

“But after just a matter of minutes I took the weight off my shoulders. I thought ‘if I’m good, if they like what I’m doing they will make me stay.’

“’If I’m not good, if I don’t have good results they will sack me anyway.’ I can have a five-year contract and they could still sack me so why worry about it?

“Am I convinced about myself? Yes. Am I convinced about this club and team? Yes and yes. So why worry?

“From there on I stepped out of the cycle of thinking and I live a bit easier now. I don’t worry as much.”

The Chelsea manager has been impressive so far with him yet to lose any game after taking charge from Frank Lampard, having draw just two matches against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton.

His last impressive win came against Atletico Madrid away for home in the UEFA Champions League which the Blues won 1-0 with an outstanding goal being scored by French International Olivier Giroud who set a record for the highest goal scored.

Chelsea are also up to fifth in the Premier League, two points behind London rivals West Ham who sit directly above them and 16 adrift of table-topping Manchester City who have just 10 points about their fellow United side.

A home date with Manchester United is next on the agenda for Tuchel and his players with a trip to defending champions Liverpool set to follow on March 4 which is another big game for them before they have to face Atletico Madrid.

They will be hoping all their player stay fit and injury free as they will look to rotate the team as often as possible so they can rest some players who will have to start some games as the likes of Jorginho and Mason Mount won’t be playing in the UEFA Champions League.

Both players are suspended after receiving yellow cards in the first leg which Chelsea won by 1-0 as Olivier Giroud delivered for them with an overhead kick which was the game decider.
